TMJ Pain

TMJ or Temporomandibular joint syndrome is one of the most elusive and difficult conditions recognized by the medical profession. Unfortunately, this problem is quite hard to detect and people live their lives with dizziness, headaches, eye pain, shoulder pain, neck pain and ear aches without even realizing the root cause of the problem. Often times, people are not diagnosed properly and don’t realize that the problems lies in the jaw and surrounding tissues. In order to eliminate all the symptoms, it is necessary to use a combination of various therapies and an integrated approach towards treatment.

TMJ causes severe joint pain and occurs when the disc has been displaced. It also occurs when the surrounding tendons and muscles have been inflamed. Some common symptoms are:

- Tenderness and pain around your ear
- Inability to easily open or close your mouth
- A clenching or grinding sound while opening or closing your mouth

Temporomandibular joint syndrome can be caused by many different reasons. Some of the more common ones include grinding or clenching of teeth, improper bite, different kinds of arthritis, injury to the skull, error in dental procedure, and overuse of jaw and stress.

Chiropractic treatment can be quite effective for patients suffering from TMJ syndrome. To start, a chiropractor usually performs a complete spinal analysis. This analysis focuses on your upper neck and evaluates the condition of your jaw joint. During treatment stages, the chiropractor will aim to adjust your upper neck or/and jaw area.

If the problem is not severe, you may see immediate results. However, you will have to attend some sessions to get complete relief. In most cases, people who don’t visit a chiropractor right away risk a longer recovery period. Chiropractic treatment not only aims to treat patients until the pain dissipates, but also eliminates problem permanently.
